    3. Jelly Opal Ring in Sterling Setting (China)

    #4 looks like a Dentalium/tusk shell,the backside surface seems strange,metal pealing off?

The unusual pin has definitely piqued my interest. Unfortunately, I have no clue about it.

The filigree pin has a trombone clasp, so Italy would make sense. It's probably .800 silver but could be sterling.

Thank you. I'll look that up. The back side is rough, globby and pitted, but not peeling off.

Perfect. Excellent information. It is unmarked. Do you think older?

I’d have had number 4 away in the blink of an eye!. I love the weird and the wonderful! Does it polish up?. Is the green gem really green or is it a trick of the light? The butterfly is a little incongruous but it looks unusual enough to be recognisable as by ‘someone’.
I believe that is a 1970s Trifari mark.

    Filigree could also be Portuguese.

There are different colours in the filigree leaves, which makes me think it isn't silver. My guess is ca 1950 German base metal, they made a lot of similar items.

I love weird too! I haven't tried to polish it. I'll try a space on the back. The green gem is a pale green, but the interplay of the light was accidental. I thought it showed the cut well, so I decided to use that photo. That bug is a horsefly. So I was thinking a coastal or water filled world as inspiration to the artist.
I appreciate the timing of the Trifari mark. It is clearly just good costume, so I bought it on a whim. It was cheap because they missed the mark. Thank you for your thoughts. I appreciate you taking a look. I know you see and research a lot of jewelry.

Perfect. Italian brought similar but not this type of design. I'll search Portuguese. Thank you.

Ah ha. German. I didn't know that about colored metal. I was thinking an applied enamel, but now that you mention it clearly the metal itself is colored. Off to research German. Thank you.

Thank you. Someone was very creative. I can't even fathom where it may have sprung from. @Hollyblue's lead suggested Native American, but that is a modern catch.

#5. Typical Mexican silver and abalone piece, but test the metal, I am wary of Mexican silver since quite a few of pieces I have had turned out to be falsely marked. I would call it inlay abalone rather than "carved".

It's a pin, it also has a bail for wearing as a pendant?

Or Portuguese, or costume, as noted by others. The Portuguese are notorious for hiding marks, and some silver pieces weren't marked at all if they were for local sale only especially. Definitely one to scratch test. One quick and easy is to rub it with your thumb. If some black stuff rubs off on your fingers easily, the odds on silver go up. Nickel can do it too, so it's not diagnostic.

I like the unusual nr4 too. Looks a bit masonic to mine eye except the bird /fly.

Had it for so long waiting to show it, forgot about the pin. I am also wary of the sterling too. Inlaid abalone. Thank you very much.
