Featured Nippon?

Pair of 12" tall, unmarked vases. I'm leaning towards Nippon but I haven't found the this shape yet. Am I on the right track or should I be looking at European makers. Thank you.

 

I vote European and hobbyist painted.

 

The gold details are not what I would expect from a hobbyist. I'm off to look at European shapes. Thank you.

 

I vote Austrian.

 

The handles do remind me of some of the Robert Henke pieces. I still haven't found it but I did ID another vase that I have as Royal Vienna.

 

My first thought was Austrian, but it may be German.
Maybe part of the RS Germany, RS Tillowitz etc grouping

I JUST yesterday looked at a vase shaped like this painted the same way and it had a Japanese mark on it ?

 

Yeah I was looking at the quality of painting as opposed to the German ones. Starting to second guess my first impression.

I'm going to step away from this, as now I am confused.

 

Ditto on confused. I searched different makers for hours last night and did not find anything, just a few with some slightly similar shapes or handles but not both.

The cranes sure make it look Japanese, but if it's not marked, how does that constitute an ID?

 

Did other makers from other countries do that type of moriage treatment?

 

I lost my internet connection for most of the afternoon. I just did a quick search for moriage and it seems all articles, specialists and Asian pottery groups and boards agree, it is Japanese. The fact that my pieces are not marked could mean these were made prior to the McKinley Tariff act of 1890 before imported goods were required to be marked with the country of origin.

Edit - I should have said that the "all the boards, articles, etc. that I read.

 

Without a mark, I would think it would be difficult to ID the maker. It does seem to be a "rare" blank.
