Featured Thai Foo Dogs(?) Bookends - What are these made of?

    I found these yesterday at my local thrift store. They look like Chinese foo dogs but I am sure that it's Thai symbols characters on it?

    Also it is covered with a gold color that is sandy or glitters, but where there are 2 small spots with a chip missing it looks like terra cotta? or is it chalkware? (they are a bit heavy; not what I think chalkware would weigh) - Could they be chalkware on top with terra cotta bases?
    Any thoughts on these would be greatly appreciated!

    Looks like they're plaster (plasterware, chalkware).

    I don't think they are bookends. There is no flat vertical surface. Probably recent decorative items.
