I'm looking into buying these bookends for myself but since it would be €80... I do have some questions. I need to be able to sell them with a profit if I would choose to do so. Is this the real Jaguar car symbol? It looks like it. What kind of stone is that? They call the stone green marble but is it? Doesn't look like it. I do find several for sale with the same symbols but on metal instead of stone (custom made?) and looking cheaper (going for 75 to 120). Example: https://auction.catawiki.com/kavels/6293475-jaguar-bookends It is claimed this is/was a gift from Jag dealers to their clients. All information welcome. Thanks.
They look right to me, I had a Jaguar with the large size cat on it. I also salvaged one from a wreck that I had for years. The second Jag I had had a smallrt version and later they were deemed a hazard to pedesrians and banned.
They might be real, might not, I've never seen similar and I'm not aware Jaguar give these to clients. There are several on Google images but mainly on wood plinths. I would not pay €80 for them, I would go to the scrap yard and make my own . https://www.google.co.uk/search?biw...84.316.4......1....1..gws-wiz-img.ZJ5LW4ENrj8
Looks right to my old eyes, BWDIK. My mother had a Jaguar so many years ago. I remember struggling to get out of the bucket seats and I am petite to begin with.
A few sold back in 2012 https://www.worthpoint.com/worthopedia/bronze-art-deco-statue-jaguar-281905302 ($207) https://www.worthpoint.com/worthopedia/leaping-jaguar-car-mascot-book-ends-308560142 ($80) Might be worth more, or less, now, but they seem legit.
Over the course of 10 or 12 years (and back in a different place & time!), I had 3 different Jaguar VDPs in a row. The first 2 had the large cat; the last one had the small cat. My 2nd Jag was vandalized one time, and among other things, the vandals ripped off the large cat from the hood. At the time, the repair was something like $1950 for damage to the hood itself, PLUS the cost of a new hood ornament. I know you could buy the hood ornaments from the Jag dealer, because I had to buy one. I also know they had a full collection of all sorts of Jaquar items (including giftware and jewelry) in a big glass case in the lobby - all for sale. I wouldn't doubt that some of the items shown here were sold by Jag dealers. As for "gift from the dealer"? I would doubt it! They'd wash your car at no charge (ha!) every time it was in for service, but otherwise, they really were NOT into freebies - at least where I lived!
I might buy them for a lower price since they are not unique (the marble) and it's not a complete set. In any case, I bought the ones below. I like both Wagner and Beethoven and the price was ok.
