    Hey lovely people :)

I found something that I reeeeeaaaaly like on an auction, but not sure if I should buy it. You helped me decide with another set and I really appreciated it. This one looks more like a real thing even though I doubt it's actual Sevres.

I copied the information from the auction site:
Hand-painted and gilded décor, contured brim, 'bleu nouveau' ground, the mirror with a portrait of 'Henri de Tolouse', the brim probably with later décor of guilloché enamel. With interlaced L's and BB for 1779. Diameter 24 cm. Mounted in later frame. Total diameter 44 cm.

I thank you all in advance!
    Erik

Did you make sure the photos were each under 1MB?

Just ONCE I'd like the subject to be really, truly Sevres! I don't think one has ever shone up here. :meh:

It seems to me the back says Henri de Lorraine, not Toulouse. (Someone had Henri de Toulouse Lautrec on their mind?) I think "guilloché enamel" is an incorrect description of the border. (Though I think I have seen decorative raised enamel dots like those described as "jewels".) The decoration seems to me more like late Victorian or Edwardian.

That may not be Sevres, but it is a very high quality and lovely piece on its own.I thought myself reformed from this style but I reverted the second I saw this plate.

There are portraits of Henri de Lorraine, beardless, from his time:
    Clouet_Henri_de_Guise.jpg

But the closest image I can find to this is an engraving from the mid 19th C (but I've also found examples dated 1875 and 1890 - the engraving plates got around):
    PORTRAIT-de-HENRI-de-LORRAINE-DUC-de-GUISE.jpg

(My first impression was an Errol Flynn sort of look, but when I Googled the image what I got was James Joyce!)

Aquitaine Is What It IS! But NEVER BORED!

@Erik Aunapuu, I looked at it on the original site....the frame the plate is in, is in VERY ROUGH condition, which I hope you probably noticed!! And yes, the plate is lovely, but I can't speak to the authenticity of the signature on the back.....maybe others can here.....

Thank you everyone for your input. It means a lot.

@Aquitaine - to be honest, I didn't. I am embarrassed. :D I was so impressed with the plate that I didn't even pay attention to the frame.
This one is hard. I like it a lot, but I wish I knew at least when it was made. If it is from somewhere 1900s, then I don't want it, I think... :)

To be honest, I'm surprised it's not legit, I mean how finer can you get ?

I would gladly go for a coffee with him.:)
Not the one in the painting though, which is probably more true to life.:(

It is a beautiful piece. The frame is in pretty tough shape but still the quality of the piece is fantastic
