    Hi,
Picked up these two vases today, both marked but I have no idea of the mark.
I'm not even sure if these are pottery - very thin and somewhat translucent, textured finish.
    Any ideas or thoughts?

I think that script might be Korean.

I found your mark on the gotheborg discussion boards (on the paid part) as Japanese Banko ware 20th C.

The marbled clay effect itself is called neriage. There is some conflict among certain potters and collectors whether the terms neriage and nerikomi, can be used interchangeably, but you often see both used as descriptions for this process, which originated in Japan. Beautiful examples!

Just to confirm, it is marked 萬古 Banko in Japanese and has nothing to do with Korea.

Thank-you folks! I've never heard of Banko Ware or Neriage & Nerikomi, will check this info out.
