This is a Bargain Hunt episode. The knife is at about minute 9. I couldn't see enough of the design to be really sure where it came from, and we all know how much to trust some of the "experts" on these shows.... I figured @Any Jewelry would probably recognize it if no one else. (you've got a rep!)

A rep for recognizing objects of obscure origin?:D
As you see, I'm not the only one, Holly beat me to it.
    Here is some more info:

"Rare, exceptional hand forged 'Coupe Papier' or, Letter Opener in Art Nouveau Swedish Steel and in excellent condition. Rare Letter Opener in Bronze with the 'Tip' still in original condition. The 2 Scenes depicted show both a local Man and Woman in Period Dress. Signed or Hallmarked and stamped 'Rättvik'"

I was surprised to hear Philip Serrell call the decoration niello, when there was clearly no niello in sight.
Not sure if it is actually damascened either. The bronze is clearly just a very thin layer, no actual inlay, and not very intricate.
The man and woman are wearing Rättvik regional dress, here is an example of the woman's dress:

Dunno about you, but I like her outfit better than the letter opener. Lots of dealers pretend to know more than they actually do about some things. Seems like Phil really knows his niello.:smuggrin::smuggrin: I was seeing some Southeast Asian influence in it too, probably mistakenly. The Indians do a lot of funky metal inlay, but this isn't that.

I do too. And the girl herself is lovely as well.
Maybe you were thinking of non-patinated Japanese shibuichi, like halfway down komo's thread:

I was thinking of some tourist/souvenir gift pieces I've seen come out of India, none of which are worth any money. The Japanese work is far higher quality.

If Phil had taken out some reading glasses,he would have seen Rättvik plainly stamped above the blade part with 3-4 mm letters.

There is on on ebbo that may have niello, but looks like the design was acid etched. On the video it hard to see,but the name seems raised.
