Featured odd lil watercolour

    something else i picked up at a boot sale for a £1

    very small, 3 by 5 inches

    signed spick 01 (cant find anything)

    dont really know how to describe it so any thoughts appreciated

    spooky ?

    nothing on back

    Not very old. Contemporary with the frame, I'd think. And, artist does cleverly pack a fair amount of emotion into something of such a small scale. You sure the signature isn't "S. Pick" and "O1" the date?

    Ah could be s pick I'll try that instead, yes 2001 date, not old at all, but emotive as you say

    Yes,has a bit of a eerie feel and gets the imagination going. Overall I like it..

    As a NZer, the "S. Pick" rang a few bells for me - I'm not at all sure, but a possibility I would check is if this is by Seraphine Pick, a venerable surrealist painter in my home country.

    It's a wee one, and not completely typical, but if it is hers (and she does sign them like this), probably worth high hundreds - low thousands at auction In New Zealand.

    Also, her dealer at the time ran a show in 2002 called Red White & Black (Anna Bibby Gallery, Auckland) in which she was included. Possibly this is a study for a larger work?

    Perhaps, perhaps, perhaps?

    Do update if you find it is hers ... a quick email to one of the auction houses (Webb's or Art + Object) might be the way to go.
