Have this carving of a Nordic ship that is big and carved from a single piece of wood, am asking for help identifying the wood its made from. The iconography pretty much points to the Viking realm. It measures 5'H x 5'W and it is only carved on one side, the backside is flat, more made to jut up against a wall. Hopefully you can point me in the right direction as to what type wood it is and any advice as to find out how old it would be, thx in advabce. ship1.jpg ship2.jpg ship3.jpg

Aquitaine Is What It IS! But NEVER BORED!

Is there any way we can see the back of the carving.....to see the UN-carved side...and maybe some graining??? From what I can see, it looks kind of neat, but the short angle isn't showing a lot....at least....to ME!!

The origin is probably a clue to the wood.
The Scottish and Manx are also into Viking style crafts, because of the Viking Kingdom of the Isles in that region, etc.
The type of ship is a Drakkar. The sun symbol on the sail is unusual, maybe that is a clue to the origin?
