Medal identification please

I found this in some possessions of a family member and I was just curious what the middle was for. Or where I can go to find out? Thank you.

Thank you. It was from my mother who passed away last year at age 94 and she was in the Korean war in the Air Force left a captain. But this other family members who serve so I wanted to make sure thank you

 

That one was Mom's, sounds like. I always want to pound heads when I find someone's medals in the for-sale pile. Keep it safe somewhere and make sure to write down whose it was and what for.

Do you know anything about the ribbons or the the vertical ribbons or whatever you call them that they were awarded as well I have hers and I know a couple of them were service medals one was a flight nurse metal but I kind of like to know more about like why there's three little clusters of metal stars or oak clusters. I'd also like to know why she wanted and what four cuz it's not in her personnel records that I can find she was 94 last year when she passed away ever mentioned it at all that she won an air metal which to me is pretty important.

 

Not really. The UN ribbon is a UN ribbon, and the second louie bars I know. The medical wings too. Not sure of the others.

One problem you're having is a lot of service records burned up in the 1970s. I literally know more about my grandfather's WWI service than the US Government does at this point. I have his discharge papers.

 

Third one down are Captain Bars.

 

I think the blue one at the top is the Korean Service Medal ribbon. The three ribbons below are pretty faded. I'm not sure about them.
