Are you sure that's embroidered? Looks woven.

I agree that it looks woven rather than embroidered. It may have been cut from a larger fabric, and mounted on the plain fabric. Can you please post some closeups, particularly showing the intersection of the design area and the plain border (at the right edge of the fruit tree, and the end of the peacock's tail).

Woven and then printed or painted, looks like. Maybe both. Very Arts&Crafts era stuff. No idea where from.

Thanks for looking yes I think it looks Arts & Crafts there’s a vase I have named Ophelia done by an American potter and the similarities are striking .Don’t have his name here at the moment would have to find it but it’s early 20th Century .

Artist is Frank Beardmore and I remembered the image of his vase called Ophelia , looks very like his wonderful piece.

Just realised the vase is an English maker my mistake thought he was American , has Arts & Crafts described Ophelia vases though the sample was similar in style.

Thanks for the closeups. It is an interesting construction, and difficult to say for sure what is going on just from photos. It looks like the background (the cream color) was woven on a loom, and other elements of the design (the larger areas of green, and perhaps the red of her gown) either printed or painted, as @evelyb30 suggests. The black lines look they might be added as embroidery.

    It is a nice piece.
