Match striker jug?

This looks to me like a glass match striker, except it’s a jug. Do you think it is a striker and the jug is for tapers or something? But why would it have a spout? Or is the ridging purely decorative on a functional item?
Sadly some cracks but interesting none the less. Thanks for looking :)

I'd think striker, late 19th. Matches or spills kept in it. A novelty.

Au Contraire, Bear! As we don't have a pic that confirms the spout being real/functional, nor any dimensional information or size comparison, I can sympathize with your initial impression. And not that my experience is particularly deep in match holders with striker faces...but thats a pitcher, to my eye! The ridges, as KSW suggested, are "purely decorative on a functional item" imho.
Also: "...or spills kept in it"...what manner of spills were you thinking of? Thanks!

I can't show a link as I'm on a boat in the middle of nowhere with limited wifi, but if you Google images "Ridged glass spill match striker jug" there are a few pictured.
Also "Antique art nouveau WMF match striker taper holder jug ,Etsy is similar.
    Ahoy.

It’s around 3” tall and the spout is functional.

They seem to think novelty taper holder too. Someone got bored with making the plain topped ones.
I think the answer is that it can be whatever you want it to be!

Ah, good find @TallCakes ! Yes, it’s creamer size similar to the one in your photo. Panel optics? Off to Google……

Rolled paper spills, about six inches or so.

I've seen a fair few novelty holders.

As I am frequently reminded, my abysmal ignorance has been exposed. West Coast city boy, dumb as an oyster. I stand fully corrected in this matter. Apologies to all...no offense intended.
