    Hi everyone. Newbie here.

I have just inherited these lovely chairs from UK England, 4 in total. Trying to find out more about them as the engraving on the front seems a little unusual. I have tried searching the web but to no avail. Makers markings are pretty hard to read.

Anyone know anything about them? Date or make? Type of wood?

    Thank you!

Modern (20th century). From the back they look like it could be oak, but half stripped finish is in the way of a clear view. The seat looks like pine. Try drabbing a little paint thinner or white spirit over it and take a pic before it dries. The decoration looks like pyrography to me, not carving.
In America they'd call this style they have an air of Renaissance revival, I think in the UK would be simply cottage furniture. Kitchen chairs, they'd be usually called. The two, more sought after, armchairs that completed the set parted company of the rest at some point, as has the table (probably too big for modern kitchens).

Look more like beech to me, though could be mixed woods. Back parts do have a bit of an oak or ash look to them. Really a heavy windsor based/tavern type chair. Certainly 50s or later. Maybe even a few decades later.
