are these pearlware?

    Pearlware is a glaze which has a small amount of cobalt which gives a slight blue tint and makes creamy porcelain look a bit more white. You can tell if it is a pearlware glaze by looking at thicker areas of glaze, where it has accumulated around the edges of the bases is a good area to check. You can't normally see the blue tint on the body or flat areas. If the glaze accumulations have a distinct blue tint (it's pretty obvious) then you have a pearlware glaze. I can't tell from your pics whether or not it is the case for these pieces.

    Pearlware is on an earthenware body rather than porcelain believe.

    Porcelain is translucent, so hold it up to a strong light and see if any shines through. However, as was said above, latter half of the 19th c. and an inexpensive gift ware likely as quality isn't that good. :)
