I think the stone is Quartz, this belonged to my Nan (not the one with the rosary). It's just marked 9ct and I can't see any other marks, so am assuming it's either quite old or came from overseas?

The stone is really dusty and grubby whoops

I don’t know when we started using full hallmarks though.

I don't know, it's paler on the shoulders and setting so it could be. I haven't replaced my acid test fluid so can't check

British, and any time from the late 19th to early 30s. It will indeed be silver set. If you've not got an ultrasound, stick it in a bit of vodka or gin, it'll come up nicely. I don't think quartz, but it needs cleaning first.

I do have an ultrasonic cleaner, had it for some time but never used it. I will try it out tomorrow :) no gin or vodka though lol

I'd try vinegar and an old toothbrush. Ultrasonic might knock the stone out.

Full hallmarks go back to around the 14th C. But even in the 20th, many didn't use them.

Managed to clean it with just water and a soft toothbrush
