    Hi,

Was supposed to be buying jewelry, but came home with this. Clearly several things are missing, but I think might still find a buyer what with Easter, rabbit lovers, etc.

I easily found WMF items, but not this exact piece with the rabbit.

Definitely missing 3 little inserts and maybe 2 forks for the sides, but it has a great look and sometimes people are partial to collectibles with animals.

So my questions: What is a name for this type of thing? (Condiment holder?)

Also, can anyone put a date on it. I found the stamp on a silver site but couldn't see how to relate it to a date frame.

    Thanks.

WMF is still in business, so it could be hard to date. I don't think it's incredibly old.
I'd throw some Easter "grass" in it and use it to display Ukranian or other painted or dyed eggs.

Definitely, Lucille! (I must admit to being one of those "rabbit lovers"!) Yours is just too cute!

Figtree3 What would you do if you weren't afraid?

This tray is very cute -- Something like evelyb30's suggestion would be great. Lots of options. I could even see using it to hold a stack of business cards, even though usually those types of holders have square corners. Or how about a small candy dish? Maybe jelly beans?

Maybe call it a catch all dish.
I would have bought that too.

It looks like a piece of chromed stainless from here, or something similar. They may have reused the mark or it could be a lot older than it looks.

they didn't reuse the old marks. they had Brittania models - same metal as the Oscar statues - that look like this when polished up.

About 1 1/4 inch across, or 3.18cm. Depth almost nothing at all, very shallow.

(Quick edit: was writing as the last few posts came in. As soon as I posted noticed some additional comments had come in. Off to see what is in the link.)

Love the ideas here for use. I already thought about this once home. Would be so chic with jelly beans for Easter, had not thought of putting Easter grass in there.

I got it even with missing pieces, because it reminded me of Deco chrome I've seen. Also brought to mind 1950s. Not saying it is that old, but design-wise it was the first thing I thought of. Could be more modern with a nod to that era. Mainly the rabbit sold me, of course.

The little holders for some kind of missing utensil on each side, all of this doesn't seem totally modern, although in Germany maybe perfectly contemporary.

I could not find anything similar online, but not sure what that means. Any additional comments certainly welcome.

    Thanks everyone.

The side holders do remind me of what you see on old pickle jars. Could this really be that old?

Will continue to research. Thanks. :)

How much space is there between the "holders" attached to the rabbit and the surface below them?

Thanks. So, thinking about what kind of utensil would be involved - spoon, fork, knife, pick - I also noticed that there are 3 little round spaces "inside" each of the holders and I think that would be intentional. Normally a holder of utensils is arranged so that the diner can pick up the item by the handle and not by the "business end." I think that rules out spoons and forks, unless they have extremely thin handles to fit into those spaces. Knives are even less likely. So we're down to some kind of pick. Does that make sense?

this probably makes no sense..but wound't nut picks (or some other "odd" serving utensil fit in those spaces?
