I would have grabbed it and ran.:joyful: Even if it hadn't had flutterbies.
I would even have grabbed it if it had, say ...uhm... dragons.:hilarious:

The mesurements are little bit too much for a seal paste box, (always amazed by Christie's prices:woot:), powder box is a possibility:joyful:

18€ + 6€ shipping is a bargain:), even if when looking for Totai Shippo other pieces I was surprised by the "modest" prices for something which was made during a very limited time at end of 19th century:facepalm:

I will update with new pics when I get it, after cleaning:)

I can see it now. Likely 99% of us would walk by 99% of the cloisonne boxes & other objects we encounter. :meh::meh::meh:

    NOT ANYMORE!!!!! :p:p:p:p

Every member of this forum will be looking & touching every piece of cloisonne that we see from now on. :D:D:D

You can count me in those 99%:hilarious:
And sure, 99% of the cloisonnés on Ebay are uninteresting:facepalm:

Antiquers forums are the most marvellous places for learning to look otherwise to pieces you didn't thought about:joyful:

@Figtree3 Thank you for reminding me to update with the cleaning
It was really filthy! Dish soap then windex and finally a polish paste which foams with water!!!
The enamel surface isn't at all the same as on metal cloisonnés, it is really matte:jawdrop:
I can now see that on other examples I found on Ebay.
    Here are the pics before/after:joyful:

The comparison is really interesting. I can see what you mean about the matte surface! Thank you.

Very nice result kyra. I don't mind the matte look, that probably comes with age. You can always put a little micro-crystalline wax on it, to protect it. If you give it a gentle rub afterwards, it will probably give it a soft sheen. If you don't, it will retain its matte look. You may need several layers to get a soft sheen.

    :kiss:AJ!
the matte look is obviously how it was originally:)
I was going to wax it... Happily I saw other Totai Shippo were matte too:joyful:
And in fact, this smooth velvet look is very sweet:)
