I think it is recent studio piece but wonder if the drawing can give any clues of the origin?
    Thanks

Kard,... that glaze is defective with all those blisters..:( also it looks like student ware. (My DH taught College Ceramics for 35 years)

Studio pottery for sure. The devil cow with the wings is pretty cool.

I was not sure what to call it. Devil cow :)
I wonder if the image is taken from a myth, maybe a cave painting, petrograph etc or just a vision of the artist.

I would not call this Studio Pottery, which as I understand to mean is made by a professional potter from a studio, this piece is not anywhere near "studio quality", the form, the crudeness of the image, the application of the glaze, the trimming, the the lack of understanding of all the above says STUDENT to me. I am not trying to trash your bowl Kard, just saying not studio pottery. And believe me I have seen thousands of pots by students. 35 years of 40 students per semester......:wideyed::rolleyes:

    Please Tauriel, trash it.
Kard....If I had this pot which I hope I never do.....I'd put a dead plant in it & leave it at the end of my driveway.

I'd classify it as outsider art, at least the cow.

It could be some kid's school art, or one of those charity pieces made by people with disabilities. It looks like something my niece would have done about three years ago. It's kind of cool in its own way.

Well, I would say it is a representation of the Buraq creature from the koran. I've studied that book quite a lot since 911. A horse-like creature with wings on the butt, semi-humanoid face. I have nothing else to say that wouldn't be politically incorrect.

It looks in the style of Japanese folk pottery to me. Mingei would be the key word to check that out.

    Thanks.
I got the bowl from an estate sale. The house had a large amount of Japanese pottery and porcelain. But there was also other type of pottery, American, Chinese etc.
Will do some research on Mingei and Buraq.
