I bought this at a thrift store the other day. I am thinking most likely from the 1960s-70's. I am guessing that it is Venice, but I will see what folks think. I was hoping someone could work some graphic magic on the signature and make it a little more clear. @Aquitaine The signature was written with the end of a paint brush. No information is written on the back. The stretcher bars are pine and seem a bit crude and probably were made by the artist. I think this was probably done for the tourist market. The canvas is stapled to the stretchers. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Yes, Venice. And I read the surname as "Stow."

Aquitaine Is What It IS! But NEVER BORED!

@Lithographer, well I didn't come up with a surname as mentioned above! In fact, I didn't come up with any 'specific' surname! But did try lightening where I saw in blue a dark signature and tried filling with THIRD image an enhanced blue.....FIRST image is close up of the Original sig....SECOND image is Lightened, Inverted then filled with the color it turned when inverted (orange) and third is as stated above.....if it's Venice, then maybe/probably an Italian signature??

So tourist art? Don’t like the frame much, but is a attractive looking painting. Has a bit of a impressionist feel to it (well for me)

I'd think it was tourist art too. But more interesting than most.

I was thinking about spraying the frame black.

I'm not sure you'll be happy with the results. It will darken the entire painting. Now, you can see how the gold frame picks up the goldtones and brings the painting to life.
