First name looks like Ray but not sure what’s next?

 

That's so close to a Edward S. Curtis portrait. Do you think it might have been done as a Drawing 101 class exercise? You know the one -- where you recreate a photograph using the grid method?

Definitely a cool drawing. Can't help on signature but you might want to get it out of the frame as it appears it has some foxing on it

 

Hm, could be Edward S. Curtis.

 

To me, it looks like one of the many scores of portraits of Chief Joseph that were done "after" Curtis' famous photographs.

 

There are some similarities ...but, just my opinion - it doesn't look like the same person to me. Of course that could just be the interpretation of the person who did the drawing.

 

I think it is another gent, also photographed by Curtis, the famous portrait of Chief Joseph of the Nez Perce:

 

The signature in the drawing to me looks like ......Feather.

I keep a copy of a Curtis photograph of a Tewa girl after we were startled at how much it looks like my youngest daughter. Also a link to the collection of the beautiful photographs of Native Americans he took.

Actually, this piece is from todays auction. As we cannot identify the artist I wonder if the artwork has a good potential resale value?
