    Stamped with made in France and other numbers.Wooden log with raised metal images.

    It's for printing cloth using a roller type technique.

    Thanks. Seems like it could be a wallpaper roller. I see a lot of these were turned into lamps.

    I would suggest that it's more for a stucco like wall treatment , on the borders.
    You can see how the texturing goes all the way down to the base of the roller.
    That would not show up if it were used on a hard flat surface , as only the high edge would made an impression, so the roller must have sunk deeper into the material to have the entire carved surface leave an impression.
