Featured 1802 AMERICAN ALMANAC

***Hello Everyone!

Quick Story: My dad collected Antiques for over 50 years. As a kid, my dad had an Antiques Store. My dad is getting older and recently sold his house. The house was filled with his most precious finds: Chinese Potteries, Porcelains, Paintings, Etchings, Prints, Tobys, etc, and many many Antique and Rare Books (several are signed) some books are as old as 1600's.


My dad gave me everything. I was the only kid so he wanted me to have all of his most precious treasures. I feel blessed. I will be posting a few things on here in the next few weeks in hope of getting a few more information on certain pieces. I still have 12 boxes of Antique books that are unopened so it will take me some time but will try to post the best finds on here. ***

About these pieces:
-I thought it would be cool to post a few pictures but I welcome any insights you may have on these as well !
- 1802 AMERICAN ALMANAC, not in the best of shape but I don't think they were meant to last that long!
- LEAVITT'S FARMER'S ALMANAC from 1900,1901,1903,1904,1905
- Anyone has any idea why they say "Almanac" on the cover but on the first page they write "Almanack"with a "k" ?

 

I've seen it spelled both ways in older publications, too. Not sure why, but spelling was often fluid and changeable in general.

 

Thanks for your comment! Yes that makes sense. I just thought it was funny they write it one way on the cover and a different way on the first page

Spelling was not standardized until Dictionaries. I believe Noah Webster 1806 and an earlier one in 1750's by Johnson. I have my great grand father's diary and he spelled many words differently through out. Some of my relatives when by Millar and Miller on family documents.

 

Thanks for your reply Lark. That makes sense ! My first ancestors coming from France to Canada spelled their names differently back in 1671.

PS: so cool about your grandfather's diary. What a nice treasure to have!
