    Hi,
I'm trying to figure out the maker for this piece - stands 7" in height. I can find many examples of this mark but nobody seems to know who the maker is.
    Any ideas appreciated!
    thanks for looking.

I found a page of "Viking salts" that had this -

"This ship has four markings. From left to right, they are: the Danish two-tower mark that stands for silverplate (solid silver is indicated by three towers). Next is the word "ENERET", which means 'patent' or 'monopoly', and indicates exclusive use of a design. Next is a mark which so far I have been unable to identify. And finally, in an oval, the word "ASTRAL" with two wavy lines below it, also so far unidentified."

You have to scroll down almost to the bottom to see it.

I'll see what else I can find.

Thanks Messilane! Yes, I found that one and they don't know the mark either:(
Sorry, didn't see your other post - I found that one also.
Several pieces with this mark and nobody knows who made it though

    So . . . two Danish blokes in a shed? :)

Watch - one of the silver peeps will come along and say who it is right off the bat.
    LOL

I'm in the "two Danish blokes in a shed" camp myself!

I see that monogram to the right of ENERET as either VA or AV. Both combinations appear in the list of known Danish makers, but neither has an actual example shown.

I think those are x's ,Bakers. I gather 'eneret" means copyright ?

    thanks folks!
I think the letters are VA or AV also.
Yes, eneret means 'to have the sole right to use'
You would think with this many examples that the maker would be known.

"two Danish blokes" is all I could come up with. I have looked off and on since seeing this query with no luck on the maker either. I also think "AV" because in Messi link (reply #3) the cross line on the "A" is visible. In Messi's link (reply #2) the mark is 2 Xs - not the same as in her other reply. I have found one other mention of silverplate marked with AV and Astrad. No pic of the mark is included:

I looked at the listings of Danish silversmith's using the initials AV. The only one I could spot was an Arnold Vegghamer - Færøerne 1982 - 1992. This was too late to be the maker because the 2 tower mark for Danish silver plate was used only from "ca. 1890s to 1930s." Anyways I could only find a silver bracelet claiming to be by him with the pic too poor to make out the "AV."

In case it is suppose to be VA, the only Danish maker using "VA" I could spot was a V. Aagren - Copenhagen 1893 - 1937. On the examples of his mark I could spot, he used V.A, side-by-side letters, with the silver purity number.

No luck at all for a maker using the mark Astral with waves as their maker's mark.

If you find out what it is, please let me know. I have a cocktail fork with the same symbols without the Astral. it has a beautiful Celtic/Danish dragon head on the handle. Looks like it might be from the 1920s 1930s.

Huh, didn't see this first time round - seem to recall having the mark on one of my pieces, but can't recall if I'd tracked it down. When I get a chance, will look through the references/notes I have available here with me...
