If you like them, keep them. If you were considering selling, you should have some good terms now to see what others have sold for.
And I should not have been so quick to point to a specific king, so if you do sell do some more research or don’t mention at all. :)

Thank you all, I am humbled at your knowledge. Yes, I am keeping them. So strange to find them here though, almost everything is Catholic vintage stuff.

A search for 'Persepolis plate' will show you others of the type.

Every time I look at these, I am humming "Waltzing Matilda."

    Hmmmm...mmm

    Hi Silverthwaite,
Have you been drinking a lot lately? I only ask because I thought Waltzing Matilda was about the stick and bundle of clothes that a hobo carried on his shoulder.:rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:

Something like it. A waltzing Matilda is a 'swag', a rolled up blanket carried on the shoulders. As you walk the blanket 'waltzes' because of the movement of the body.

The song is about a 'swagman' or itinerant farm labourer, who stole a sheep, and committed suicide because he'd rather die than be punished for stealing a sheep.
A scene from the song, the Matilda is leaning against the tree:

I can't really see the connection with Persian plates either, but that is the human mind for you, we are all familiar with strange associations.:wacky:

AHEM! Does no one see the gentleman with the critter in his arms? Obviously waltzing?

    HUMPH!

Waltzing while shoving a sword into the stomach and a dagger into it's head?

My second thought WAS the Blue Danube! However, methinks the critter is too flatfooted.

Some people's feet hurt after a strenuous waltz; some people get headaches.

That would explain the dagger in the head I guess.
