6 shelf antique wood case with mirrored glass on top. Old style lock and key that work. In the glass is a stamp that says CHICAGO MIRROR & ART GLASS CO. AUG. cant take a picture of the etching because of the reflection. Is this pretty thing just firewood? Screenshot_20181024-003159_Yahoo Mail.jpg Screenshot_20181024-003159_Yahoo Mail.jpg

Certainly not firewood but not a lot of value. Doesn't the mirror have a date besides Aug.? Would think 19-teens, give or take. Probably mahogany.

Can the shelves be repositioned? Seems like it could hold quite a weight of paper on those elegant legs. Would the interior dimensions make it suitable now for holding something like folded sweaters?

Yes, there are holes and pegs for repositioning the shelves!!!!!!

I don't think it was for music - why the mirror, for one thing? And why the ruffled and rather decorative shelf edges? I'd also check how well sheet music would fit.

Good idea, i guess the shelves would be spaced smaller right? Its still a mystery, with the glass stamp. No idea about the type of wood. I wish it had a place in my home. Think i will try to find somebody who can appreciate it for the old lady she is lol

Certainly for sheet music. I've got one that's a bit older, complete with a mirrored backsplash (common in Victorian and post Victorian furniture), and it's held sheet music since ca. 1900. The same sheet music is still in it. My wife's great grandmother was a piano teacher, and she used it to hold piano music; it's been in the family since then. Also made of mahogany, as is yours. Agree on the 1910-1920 date.

I have one without a mirror. Suitable for storing over-sized books (someday).

    Possibly also for Victrola records?

Thanks Donna! This site doesn't really offer values like that; too many variables.

But just for a general idea, if you're in/around a big city like Chicago you could start at maybe $375 and come down a bit if necessary.
