What Am I Glass Jar Metal & Wood Stand Screen top

Hi,
I have another what am I - glass jar with metal ring top and wire screen, came in the metal stand that has wood handles.
The jar is octagon shape on the base, has some numbers or letters but I can't make them out.
The jar is 7 1/2"H. The wire in the jar ring looks like it has been soldered in place but has a glossy finish so not sure what that is.
Metal stand has feet on the base.
any thoughts or ideas appreciated.

 

Ah. I just commented on this in the Finds thread.

Flower frog top on a jar from a condiment set. Not sure what the handled holder was in its first life, but I would bet on all of it being originally separate things and then married whimsically together.

 

"Castor set jar" might be a better search term or KW.

 

When I first saw it I thought of those jars in barber shops that they use to soak the combs but they are usually taller. I agree, a marriage of all the pieces.

The handled object looks like what was in it was to be submerged in hot water, thus the wood handles not to burn yourself. Does a canning jar fit it?

Greg, I'll try some jars in it tomorrow and see if any fit.

 

Having done more than my share of canning, and having been around it for many a long year, I just don't see this as a practical canning jar thingie.

They did make things to hold jars, but they looked nothing like this, and no woman had/has the time to do one stinkin' jar at a time.

I think this is new made to look old. Flower arranger. Often found in chabby chic, or the new all white vintage decor places.

See ripply glass, (last picture) not clear and smooth.
Wire top is light weight, not strongly made for an old flower frog.

I was not thinking of a canning holder. My Gram used one like this to just heat and rinse the jar for making quince jelly since they were not sterlized. She would do one jar at a time to keep it hot while filling it and covering it with melted wax. Goodness knows at canning time six or seven ladies came for the day and it was a real production line.

None of the canning jars I have fit.
cluttered, the glass is smooth and clear, must be my photo that makes it look off.
