I found some nice pottery today, 2 MCM from West Germany and the other I think is a studio piece - does the design look like a face to anyone or is it just me? Also this glass jar in metal stand that I have no idea about,
The red/orange piece is a floor vase by Scheurich #517-38, the fish/mermaid one I'm working on trying to figure out who made it.

I see the face! (Actually 2 different ways)

The metal grid at the top of the glass jar looks like a flower frog but why it's in a jar with a handled holder, I can't say. The glass looks like a repurposed piece from an old condiment set. Somebody married the pieces together I suspect.

 

Yes, I clearly see "the face" -- reminds me of the face painting on "street mimes" (maybe/probably French mimes).

 

I like all the pottery but the Scheurich floor vase is outstanding.

Bakers, I believe you are right about the pieces being a marriage, it didn't look right to me.

 

thanks brad - it is more of a reddish/burnt orange colour than shows in the photos, nice looking piece. Just found out the one with the fish and mermaid is Ruscha Filigran 1960.

 

Nice vases and I'm with Brad, love the Scheurich. I see the face in the third one, is it signed?

Mid-Century Morris Katz (Polish-American, 1932 - 2010) oil on board painting, three vintage Russian hats and Russian enameled flatware.

First half of the 20th C.(?) bust of a woman... anyone know who she is?

I believe we've ID'ed her... it's: Helen Keller (American, 1880 - 1968).

 

Gosh, I was going to say Eudora Welty. That's interesting it's Helen. My stepmother's grandfather was the book publisher for all of Helen's books. They were close friends. I bet my stepmother would bid on this bust.

 

Sure looks like her. It's a nice bust.

 

MS attack or no MS attack, out I went. One estate sale Friday morning was a total bust, except for...whoopsie. No clue if they're worth anything, but I found five cachet covers from the Basketball Hall of Fame. Price for the whole box? Fifty cents.

 

Signed by John Wooden and Bob Cousy - and the stamp is pretty nice.
