SDC15122.JPG SDC15123.JPG SDC15124.JPG SDC15125.JPG Hoping someone could tell me what this is, a candle holder? Or what is it used for? Maybe a maker? It is 5inch tall 4inch across top. It has cloudiness around top, is there any way to get it clean again. It looks like bubbles in bubbles but it's not, that's just want it looks like when you look thru it. Any help would be great. Thanks

Hi Roger67 - Size and shape would suggest a stemmed rose bowl. I don't know the maker, though. If the cloudiness is sick glass there is no way I know of to fix it. Is it really cloudiness, though, or a failed attempt at opalescence? It would be strange to only have sick glass at the top.

A latter version of what was called Thousand Eye.

Also called an Ivy bowl when on a stem.

Check LE Smith, Duncan Miller or could be half dozen other makers.

I would put the time period to the 1940s-1960s

Edit - Forgot to add, the cloudiness is probably lime deposit from water. You can try making a paste with a product called Nothings Better. Found at hardware stores. Use 600 grit black wet/dry sandpaper. It sometimes works to take part of it off. I doubt you will get it all off.

Some people use CLR or vinegar.

    Hi,
There are professional polishers who can remove 99% of it. However it is expensive. I had a vase with a really bad case. Cost 225 bucks but it was gorgeous again.

Lime Away or CLR, the liquid mineral deposit removers are my favorite. Fast and easy, hardly any time or trouble to get the crud off and leaves no scratches.
