I have a basket that is leaving behind some fibers of whatever plant it was made from when it is moved. I would like to learn more about what it is PXL_20221129_232258307.jpg PXL_20221129_232305191.jpg PXL_20221129_232319470.MP.jpg PXL_20221129_232315588.jpg

Stand back and let us see the whole shape. Is that a solid rim on the lid? The stitching fiber looks like raffia. I can't tell what the core of the coils is, but it seems to be visible at the rim of the lid, where the coiling begins.

    How big is it?

The style of stitching, with the alternating, interlocking stitches, has been commonly taught for hobbyist weavers using raffia since the late 19th - early 20th century. But this basket appears better made than most of the amateur pieces I have seen.

From what I can see in your photos, it doesn't look like pine needles, but I don't have it in hand. The reinforcement at the edge of the lid looks like rattan. The combination of raffia, rattan, and pine needles might point to a skilled hobbyist's work, probably from the early 20th century (arts & crafts period). The general shape seems consistent with that time period, too.
