Tina, sure a number of people will be happy to assist. Would you be kind enough to post a photograph or two to give us an idea of what your collection consists of? How many plates altogether? (Approximately) what era? And what condition?

    What's a state plate collection?
    do you have every state?
When were they made & by whom ?
Are they in their original box, and in mint condition?
Are you near a big city , or up a mountain side with the goats ?
Have you looked around to see if they are worth anything at all?

Help us, to help you !!:)

I don't think the market for souvenir plates is very strong currently. However if you can't sell locally perhaps a site like Etsy would be best suited.

Depends on how old they for Etsy, can't be too new.

Look at ebay sold listings by clicking the sold button on the left when you do a search. This will give you actual selling prices, as opposed to fantasy asking prices.

I think a few years back, Country Living Mag did a thing on decorating walls with these plates. My feeling is that some may sell, but the price you get may not justify selling them online after all the fees. But ya never know. Good luck.

I hate to be a bummer, but, I get a lot of local retirees who want to sell their sets of “collector plates”. They bought them via subscription from Franklin Mint or other collector companies thinking they had real value.

My mantra is, if it comes with a “certificate of authenticity”, walk away!

Unfortunately, most of these collector plates are of very little value. When owners ask me about them I tell them to donate them to a local thrift and take a charitable tax deduction.

This has long bothered me. So many people bought things like this thinking they were buying something that would be something of value to leave to their children. I hate the hard sell these companies use to sell their items!

I agree. Go to enough estate auctions and you will see hundreds of collector's plates that either nobody wants or if someone bids sell for $2 each.

Years ago, my father and his wife went to a flea market and she decided that the Franklin Mint figurines were the be all end all. She convinced my father to buy them (he paid) for me to sell. They way overpaid. I was appreciative of the gesture, but she got all irate when she found out they were basically worthless and I refused to sell them because I don't want to spend money and time making listings for things that are not going to move. I offered them back to her but she said no.
Well I still have them and am hoping one day they MAY be collectible, but I am not holding my breath.:(:p

Yeah buy rare beanie babies instead, they’ll be worth lots someday.

Good luck. I had one charity refuse to call me back until I stopped trying to give them plates depicting the animals they were trying to help. Said they could not give them away.
