Still Stuck on This Mark

Hi Friends,

I posted a jar or vase a while back that had a glaze resembling "Chinese Oil Spot." The impressed mark at the bottom was very faint and the item remained unidentified. I'm now thinking it was a Japanese mark. Sorry I don't have any pictures of the item right now, but what follows are some pictures of the mark. I photographed it under different lighting, did the cinnamon test (see 4th pic), and even rubbed a pencil over it (see last pic). Hopefully, one of you will recognize the characters.

I found some pics of the vessel. Foot and lip ring are bisque, but it's glazed everywhere else, including the inside. About 6.5 in x 5.5 X 5.5 and just under 2 lb.

 

I don't recognize the mark, but the pencil rubbing seems the clearest image to me. The glaze is crystalline, though in this instance the crystal growth is small.

Looks like its missing a lid too.

 

Can't tonight....just going off-line, but saved your site, will try to check in the morning.....OK, it's Saturday, am back, @moreotherstuff was right, your pencil rubbing showed the best promise, but still hard to pull much out.....best I could do with inverting and a LOT of contrast!! Maybe @Ce BCA (hoping I'm tagging the correct member!)

The top character is Quan 泉. The bottom one COULD be Xi 熙 (as in KangXI). Most probably a Japanese name

 

Thanks. Good to know that the top is "Quan," or, the English translation, "spring." I'm confused, though, about why a jar mark would have a Chinese word at the top and then a Japanese name at the bottom.

 

"Quan Xi" together constitutes the Japanese Kanji name (if the translation is correct). Probably a studio mark. The vessel is Japanese ware, but I'm afraid I can't recall the name of it. Please see attachments and please bear in mind that my knowledge of Japanese ware is miniscule... and you know what they say about a little knowledge
