    Hi all,

I found these 2 in a second hand shop. No idea of value or age. The horses are so beautifully embroidered on silk. The other painting I am not sure how it is made. chin emb.jpg chin1.jpg

No, I did not buy them as I have no idea if they are worth anything... Have attached the back of the horses picture and detail, i did not take any more images of the other as it was difficult to take it out. chback.jpg chin det1.jpg

I don't know value. I would have guessed hand done (but the pictures are not good enough for me to be so bold as to guess), but I would also guess late 20th century and that means machine stuff at this level is likely possible (not really up on stuff as late as I suspect this is).

Certainly better than what's coming from some shops today, though.

Thank you Jivvy, a lot more detail here....What do you think about the other one? It seemed painted with black paint on brown paper.

I know nothing about the other one. I did wonder if it's a reverse glass painting, though.

The horses are a very popular theme, amd could be machine embroidered. Many are.:sorry:
It doesn't look Chinese to me, but Southeast Asian.

In the silhouette: is the black a separate piece pf paper overlaying the background?

Moreotherstuff, it was definitely raised from the back surface. I thought it was thick paint, but it could have been paper? I can go back and look again if I know what I am looking for.

Given that this pattern is still being made today, it seems logical that the better one is also machine done.

    But with less cost-cutting. :greedy:

Still, what can be done with machines these days is absolutely amazing. Junk machine embroidery can be spotted still (like the horse pic I pulled that matches the OP's), but some stuff... https://www.artofsilk.com/

I'm certain if I saw any of those pieces in the wild, I would judge them as hand done. (except that I wouldn't dare judge them because I know about the machines )
