    No, @Silver Wolf

It's on his foot... Two of his feet seem to be set up to attach to a platform or stand of some kind.(described earlier)

do the left foot mark looks like japanese kanji?and the right one is in latin alphabeth?if it really japanese okimono i think it should have at least one kanji word mark for this kind of bronze statue and usually the kanji word was used for the older production one without the alphabeth of course
    ,imho

actually i'm collecting some japanese antiques recently, and from what i knew i usually found the japanese bronze statue the older in form of chinese shishi or foo dogs or komainu, sometimes tiger also,i believe maybe they make elephant too,but dont know the elephants were made in old time or just past century because maybe the artist only make the common animal shape in japanese tradition in the past time and back in 19th century maybe elephant didn't exist yet in japanese people imagine  , imho ,but if the mark can be decipher it'll will be a great help to track

    I don't know... I can't read Kanji - handwritten or otherwise.

Only the left foot is marked. Here's the thread from Asian forums.com

Reads 'Seiya' (せいや) in hiragana, a maker's mark of the workshop of Genryusai Seiya in Tokyo. Date ca. 1890-1900.

I did see せいや on the piece below yesterday - identified as Genryusai Seiya - too hard for me to match up.

    Guy

Sorry if I confused earlier. I included one they identified as Genryusai Seiya, and one fake.

Yes, either alone or part of a group... Have you used that site before?

Thanks for checking in, @Silver Wolf :)

    Where are you located?

Wow - found this fascinating Genryusai Seiya piece on Mutual Art: Large Animalier Bronze Basin

An animalier is an artist (not a sculpture!), mainly from the 19th century, who specializes in, or is known for, skill in the realistic portrayal of animals.
