German Navy Dagger....just ceremonial ?

I wish I had the scabbard.....WW2 ???

 

Considering what that was made for, it sure is pretty, eh?

 

The design of the whole thing is almost deco....& while the edges are not sharpened ....I wouldn't like to get poked by it !

 

If it was made for the Navy and not export why is the blade marked Solingen Germany with Germany in English?

The form is very similar to a Sykes-Fairburn knife dressed up a bit. What ties it to the Kriegsmarine? Could it be a cadet's or midshipman's dirk?

 

What af said. It doesn't look like an official kriegsmarine dagger to me. The hilt and pommel are inconsistent. Solingen was know worldwide for its blades. It may be older as it looks to me that the hilt is bone or ivory, which had been replaced by plastics even before WWII.

JMHO.
post-WWII. blade same as the normal SA dagger. millions made (also some SS use), and used with whatever grip was asked for, well into the 50s.
same with pocketknives.
HJ daggers or properly named "Fahrtenmesser" were even sold into the 60s as boyscout daggers without the signs.
as with all the rest of the Kraut industry: after 1945 it was "Fritz, grind off the swastika and let's get going again"
