Hello everyone, I haven't been here in awhile. Spring has been a blur so far. I need help with a Fostoria glass Jenny Lind Small trinket/pin box. Here it is:

I've seen these done in white, blue and pink, but never this two tone. Also, it's not glossy on the outside, it's kind of satinized. I almost thought it was porcelain at first. I'm so confused by it!! It measures 5" long by 1 1/2" high.

Long and Seate don't mention a two tone. Couldn't find an example on ebay or WP. Has anyone every seen one like this? Thanks for your help!

Kitchen table decoration? Any scratches? I thought it looked like china also.

No scratches, it is not for a kitchen table. It's for a dresser, more a boudoir item. It looks exactly like all the other Fostoria boxes of this shape and size, except for the 2 colors and the matte finish.

I've always rolled my eyes at folks who couldn't tell glass from porcelain until now, although I'm leaning toward glass.

I don't think there's much doubt it's Fostoria's #281 pin box with cover. The interior shot of the box shows it's glass (at least to me). It may have been produced as a sample or as a special order item. Due to the extra steps involved in producing the white cameo and the satin finish it may have been judged too expensive to add into the regular line. It's a shame as your box is really much more lovely the solid colors usually seen. I think Fostoria is usually considered a fairly nice pressed glass producer but they were actually as capable of producing artistic glass as any other company and did get experimental from time to time.

Don, thank you for your reply. I thought I wrote a response yesterday, but I don't see it so I guess I forgot to push the Post button. I agree that this example is much nicer than the regular line of Jenny Lind items. The mold is especially crisp. I searched a lot yesterday trying to find any other Jenny Lind that didn't fit the norm, but came up with zip. Maybe it was part of a special order?
