Inlaid elephant and ebony dolphins

I found a large collection of African decor in a recent auction. Any idea if these are Ebony dolphins as my dad said? The small dolphin looks less dark wood and may be a different wood. Also is elephant inlaid with ivory or bone or something else? Thanks in advance.

 

It's relatively modern, so I'd go with bone.

 

Are the dolphins really heavy for the size and being wood?
They look like ironwood.

 

The elephant is teak inlaid with bone. Made in India, probably in Hoshiarpur in Punjab, NW India. You can still buy these in 'ethnic' shops around the world.

The term ebony is used for different species of dark wood, so in that sense, yes ebony. I don't think it is African ebony.

I agree, the small one could be ironwood.

Willing to wager the dolphins are ironwood from northern Mexico, per 2manybooks and clutteredcloset49 also. The saw marks on the bottom are typical too of the manufacture.

 

Yes it's made in India.
