Guess the style...

I am considering a dining set, and the current owner doesn't know when it was made. I haven't gotten to see it in person yet to check for labels or other markers. Does any one have a guess based on these photos? I was thinking it could be art deco.

 

I should add that the owner reupholstered the seats, but left the embroidered covers underneath.

 

1930s mass produced vaguely art deco. Im not sure where you are,but here in N. Fla you'd be lucky to get $150 for it.

These are usually veneered. So you need to inspect it closely for chips or loosened glue.

Most old furniture does not have labels or makers names on it.

Agree with Johnny, I wouldn't pay a high price for the condition it is in.

 

Agree with above. Going to be a nightmare to repair the finish if even possible with the veneer. I'd be vaguely curious what the embroidery looks like under the upholstery, but the whole thing needs so much work and will be hard to work on.

 

have you ever considered trying to take a board off the back of a chair to see what is inside? the backs do not fit very well and amost seem like an amateur afterthought or repair/reno. there are some details you might not expect to find on cheapo stuff so who knows really.

to me the table and chairs [minus the ugly back and with missing table brass casters] would be trying to be gillows style regency.

Ditto what the others said. Would probably look for a set in better condition unless you can get at a very good price and plan to paint.
