Just a few nooks and crannies where there are some ugly tarnish globs - overall I'm pretty pleased with where it's at. :):)

Yup, we did import a fair bit of Bohemian glass and embellish it, gut feel is this one is local though. I still don't think it had a stopper, but a thumb lid is feasible. I also think it's for water. S&W is a thought.

There IS something across the bottom, but it is pretty UN-discernible....to me at least.....

Interesting! I hadn't noticed that - I'll have a closer look and see if there's anything discernible there! Thanks!

After a loupe look at the base - I think that image picked up on the pattern of the grinding/polishing of the pontil. Not visible at all unless in really bright light at a certain angle - Guess my photo set up "brought it to light".

So I was poking around looking at good glass houses. As always one query leads to something leads to something else.
Came up with a possible English glass maker.
You might want to see what you can find.

James Powell and Sons worked for Whitefriars.

Maybe @Ownedbybear has a book or other resourses on Whitefriars.

I have vast amounts of stuff about Whitefriars and about 500 pieces of it. ;) I did consider them, but this isn't one of the known patterns. I'll go have a trawl through though, I most certainly don't know all the Powell stuff.

So, I had a trawl through Hajdamach's 20th C Glass, Andy McConnell's new Decanter book and my Big Expensive Whitefriars book. Nada. This thing is a puzzle: Powell did trailed glass, as did others, notably peacock trailed. But that's external not that internal trail which looks almost like a stretched millefiori.

Suggestion. Email Andy McConnell who is THE decanter person. His shop is called Glass Etc in Rye and he's also on Facebook. (He did pop up here a while back, too!)

Thanks so very much for taking the time to do all that! You've done so much to help me and I appreciate that so much. I will reach out to Andy as suggested :)

Tagging @Ownedbybear in case you didn't see this update since it was right before you posted.

Update - it was just suggested on the FB art glass group thread i started on this - that this is probably Webb "Filamanetosa". Here's another example where the decor I think matches mine just about exactly:

    https://www.worthpoint.com/worthopedia/thomas-webb-filamentosa-vase-ca-1900-543175297

Although the attribution on that one is simply a "after much discussion this is what most people think it is" type attribution...

Other examples of filamentosa I'm seeing online have more of a draped appearance than the zig-zagginess on mine and the one above.

I got in touch with Andy and he kindly gave his opinion is that it's a claret jug, is complete as is, would not have had a lid or stopper, and as to the maker:

"I think Stevens & Williams, Stourbridge, around 1900. That is, rather than Thomas Webb, the only other firm that could have made it.

    High-quality all-around with a good mount."
