This piece is 7" to the top of the handle, 4 7/8" to the side edge, 7 7/8" across the top & 3" across the bottom.

Does anybody recognize the maker &/or the purpose of this covered jar?

I believe Pfaltzgraff had a line like that. I had a carafe once IIRC
Vernonware also had some speckled items

I would think it would be a little large for a grease jar - BWDIK.:confused::wideyed:

I also found a Homer Laughlin pattern called Country Sage but Replacements doesn't mention a covered jar.:facepalm:

Figtree3 What would you do if you weren't afraid?

People used to use a lot more fat in cooking than they tend to do now. So, maybe.

I have a grease jar here just for show. I never knew people stored used grease till I started collecting kitchenware. They seem to come in a variety of sizes I think. Some people call them drippings jars.

Mama had a dripping jar and a lard jar, both in the fridge. Oh, fire toast and dripping and salt!
