Got this today for only $5 at thrift store! I thought it was good enough (has a folk art feel to it, right?) that the artist would be known (and $5 was worth the gamble!) - but I don't know how to google a name written in Hebrew/Yiddish (or do you only talk Yiddish?)
    Any help would be appreciated.
    PS - Good painting?

If you can figure out what the letters are (remember to work right to left) you can type them here, then use a translation program to transliterate:

That is cool Bronwen. I did not know of that link. Not that I speak Hebrew.
    I concur with Komo's thoughts.

It's definitely a "Sunday Painter" type person. I think he's depicting a ceremony from Rosh Hashanah when the congregation goes and pitches bread into body of water to symbolize throwing away their sins for the year.

Then I like that the ducks are coming to eat the bread. :)

Sin Eaters!(LOL) (for those who've run into that obscure Christian religious practice ... it's kinda backwoods)

    Nice reference.
"A sin-eater is a person who consumes a ritual meal in order to spiritually take on the sins of a deceased person. The food was believed to absorb the sins of a recently dead person, thus absolving the soul of the person."
