Is there any way I can convert a brooch into a necklace without the use of a converter? Like actually adding a piece and removing the pin?

Figtree3 What would you do if you weren't afraid?

Yes, it would help to see the piece. Lots of possible variables to consider.

Some jeweler converted my moms brooch..to a necklace....by chopping the pin off and soldering a chain on each side .
Gold & sapphires......& to my eye...ruined the damn piece.....even though it may have looked nice on her neck...
I'm to ashamed to even show it......................:(:(:(:(

have a jeweler put a bale or ring behind the top garnet...
you don't need to remove the pin..

I don't know if a jeweler will do that on a costume piece.
    Those are not garnets, btw.;)

    :D
I think I would put jump rings around the hinge and clasp of the pin and attach a chain to the rings.

Search eBay for necklace converter and you will find things like this...

wondering if the top will flop over since pin is middlish rather than toppish?

Which is why komo and I were trying to find a solution without the use of a converter.:)

That could be why Ashley doesn't want to use a converter. Maybe she has already tried it and it flopped over?

Haven’t tried it yet but I’m assuming that may happen since it is a bit top heavy.

even though this is just a costume piece I wouldn’t want to permanently alter it like that

If the converter is shorter than the pin stem you can thread beads on the pin stem either side of the converter so it stays in the center.

As far as flopping over, it may when the pin stem is in the middle of the back rather than the top of the back. I would think if the chain is short it would sit flat against the skin, If the chain is long it probably would flop.

I have never found a jeweler who will work on costume, I think some other people have. The problem with attaching a bail is that whoever does it has to know what temperature will attach the bail and not ruin the costume metal. Also, the heat would damage the stones so it is best to remove them and place them back in once the bail is in place. This is all time consuming and probably would cost more than the value of the pin.

Why not revive a trend and wear it as a pin?

Thinking I’ll just wear it as a choker and that way it won’t be able to flip

if you bluetack the loop it might not flop over :hilarious:

Bluetack? I'm not familiar with that but then again I don't much about jewelry.
