Vintage golf carts and earlier "electric shoppers' are another of my interests. The world's best golf car collection is shown in this story and video:

I have emailed back and forth a few times with Ron, what a knowledgeable person. He is the author of "Golf Car Classics", a beautifully done full color glossy book about them.

Here are some photos of a 1947 Marketeer like I have. These are not mine, mine is being restored at the moment.

They are street legal in any community that allows golf carts on the secondary roads. They were introduced as cars for the elderly in resort areas like Palm Beach, Catalina Island, etc. No license was required originally but a few deadly accidents had them banned from the roads by the mid 1950s.

Theses cars led to the development of golf cars by changing the gearing and adding fat tires. Every celebrity golfer had an early cart: Dean Martin, Frank Sinatra, Bob Hope, President Eisenhower, etc

There were a half dozen manufacturers back in the 1940s, before the golf carts. This was a huge industry for a short time, here is a view of the Marketeer factory.

I would totally have to wear a vintage outfit when Im tooling around in that ! Golf carts are a contentious thing in florida at the moment. Theyve always been, but now theres just so many more its turning into an issue.

I live across the street from a golf course so I see the newer ones all the time. I also see the golfers hitting our cars with their balls and shattering windshields too. Which is why I have glass insurance, but I digress.
Sometimes the workers ride up my street in those golf carts to maintain (and I use that term loosely) the fence. I am not sure if they are really street legal here.
