All sorts of Hong Kong bits probably came into Canada about 20 years ago, right before it stopped being a Crown Colony. Vancouver imported a pile of folks right about then, and the ladies probably brought their jools along.

No reason you couldn't. There aren't any rules. Those clasps were meant to be seen.

The main rules my kids have are 'be kind' and 'don't play with doors!'

I got some Simichrome polish tested them all the green ones turned yellow. Stuck them in some hot water and they stink to high heaven. My husband and granddaughter made faces when I made them take a whiff. Smells like chemicals. Not sure if somebody cleaned them? There are some spots on them where it looks like the color is faded like the Vendome necklace beads that I shared a couple of weeks ago. They also clunk. Is it a safe bet they are Bakelite?

I doubt it came in with the Chinese ladies, they'd rather poo poo plastic. ;) Gold and precious stuff, yes. The HK stuff I see here - and that Ma bought back in the day - was very much made for export, ex pats and tourists.

I've shipped more than one piece of costume back to China, so who knows. If it's gaudy enough and big enough, it has an audience.
