What the heck are these? Wood coffin shaped items. Kitchen related?

So I was looking through photos of estate sales this weeekend. I’m not even going to this sale but this is driving me crazy. What are these? They are shaped like coffins, made of wood, seemingly belong in the kitchen based on the items they were surrounded by. Someone could have just stuck them with kitchen stuff so that part may be off. Either way what are they??

Wood planes. Used for smoothing wood boards. The one on the right looks like a molding plane, used for creating a particular profile on decorative molding.

Ahhhh ok. Thanks! Not kitchen related so that didn’t help in my attempt to find out on my own. Any value or collectibility?

I answered my own question. Appears that some definitely are!

There are woodworkers out there who love collecting these old planes, mostly for conversion pieces, however there are some who would use them on projects.

Conversion? What are they converting or converting these to? I’m now fascinated by the coffin shaped ones...great. Now I’ll probably end up with a collection of wood planes despite that fact I really don’t work in wood ever.

Think Michael77 meant to say conversation rather than conversion :)

Figtree3 What would you do if you weren't afraid?

I think some other members here have found that they have gotten very interested in things they ask about here -- and new collections are started!

Planes are probably the most highly collected wood-working tool.

Yours likely have maker's marks on the front. Look for small, usually crisply incised, letters.
