Featured Large lidded basket

Core is pine needles. Could be native American but not sure. Anyone know anything about this big beauty? It's almost 2 feet tall with lid and 14 inches across. Was given to me by my uncle to sell on commission so I am gathering data on it in order to make a well informed listing on ebay.

 

That's a large example of a kinda common basket from Rwanda.

Very nice basket. Too bad about the damage on the rim. Probably made by a weaver in Rwanda or Burundi, such large baskets like this are less common than the smaller "gift" baskets made in the same shape, often in nesting sets. If you do a Google search for Tutsi baskets you will find other examples.

you have to look very close at the weaving structure .....
