Featured Mysterious Creature

    This pottery piece made me totally LOL when I saw it-it is a mystery as to what kind of animal/creature it is supposed to be. My first thought was a Whale because of the person inside-...then it hit me duh...Whales Do Not Have Feet nor Fur- what can I say...I hadn't had enough coffee yet, so it being the oddity that it is, of course I just had to bring it home! Any suggestions would be appreciated!
    Approx. Measurements: 6 " L x 4 & 1/4 W x 4 & 1/2 Tall
    One suggestion from another site, was possibly Robert Maxwell- he made fantasy 'creatures'. The pottery style of this to me reminds me of Artesania Rinconada because of the natural to glossy finish yet the person inside this creature is wearing, a colored "robe" and what would be an Asian style conical straw hat only adds to this mystery

    Could it be an open salt. I had one shaped like a frog with its tongue out.

    Looks like a hairy fish to me...errr...a hairy fish with eyes in front rather than on the side...lol.

    Cute in a whimsical way, as wlwhittier put it.

    I think it is for holding sponges: they were really popular when I was a kid.
