I picked this up at a yard sale for 25 cents. I thought it was pretty, but not sure what it was used for. At first I thought Clothing brush, but it seems small. They usually seem to be bigger and more narrow. I'm assuming it probably came in a larger dresser set or bathroom set of some sort? Or can it be a hair or baby hair brush?? Wasn't quite sure. Also, is it bakelite or Celluloid? With the pearlized look, I'm thinking Celluloid. What is the technical term? I always get them confused. lol Thanks!

    It measures 3 1/2 X 2 1/2.

I'm definitely on the celluloid train. Awfully pretty. Size and shape I would have said men's hairbrush, but I may be overly influenced by modern brushes.

I'm on the celluloid train too. I think this style of hairbrush is referred to as a military brush. I recall my father using two at once, one in each hand, grooming his hair.

You seem to be the closest! I googled that, and those are the most like this brush. Although they were all Oval and plain. Not sure if somebody in the military would have one this fancy. Or, maybe that was just the term? Seems a little big for a nail brush, as OwnedByBear suggested. Hmmm........

It is fancy for a man! If you google 'men's vintage travel grooming kit', several will pop up, most have a brush this size along with a clothes brush, shoe brush and other accoutrements to keep the man on the go looking spiffy.

I am also on the men's hairbrush idea. My dad had a toiletry bag that had one in it like that but with a plain top and some other do dads in it. Think he got it when he was drafted.

    Hi,
I have 4 to 5 sets of hair brushes none of them have that fancy design of them. Two have sterling tops, one has a pewter top the others have wooden bases. It is funny that all of them are pairs. I guess that I thought all mens brushes came in pairs. The one I use everyday has a wooden base, every couple of weeks it goes into the dishwasher with combs and clothes brushes and assorted other stuff. The wood gets really dry so I use heavy mineral oil on the wood a couple of times a year. The one set of sterling tops was my father's. It was the only thing except for his over coat that I got when he died. My step mother's family took everything else and sold it including the four burial plots which was supposed to go to me for my family. The only reason I got the two items was that I took them out of the trash when they cleaned out the house.
