I went to view a clearance today, slightly unusual as the property is one of my sons 30 rentals he owns.
The tenant was evicted while I was there.
Although he had paid the rent, he had allowed the house to be used as a drug supply den and a place for hookers to hang around and £15k in damage has been done to the property.
The contents have been seized to help recover some of the costs.

80% of the contents have to go to the tip, there are used needles and cat faeces all over the place.

The pics show some of the better parts of the house which I will be clearing in 28 days time.

Some nice looking items Davey, hopefully it will help with the cost of the damage.
Was this part of the house closed off from the hookers and drug trade?

I thought the age of the knick-knack everywhere was dead. I rather think you will find that that is all modern repro decor stuff, but maybe not entirely.

It is a very odd contrast. If that is all the renter's stuff, it's an odd thing that someone so ornament conscious should let the rest run to rack and ruin.

It reminds me of an Irish traveller's caravan writ large.

Don`t be fooled, the pics don`t show the floor, windows, doors, stairs, kitchen and yard.
Even in the lounge where most of this stuff is, was filthy and smelled really bad, I saw at least 7 sharps on the floor and sofa.
The furniture was splashed with blood and other bodily fluids.
The tenant was an ex antique dealer who turned to drugs, he could hardly walk and looked as if he had nearly full renal shut down as he was more yellow than Marge Simpson.

    ADD,
Yes AF probably more than half is repro but some paintings appeared original.

It appears that he might have been stashing some ill-gotten gains "up-front" until he could fence them....................I've known some dealers that would take a bit of flatware in return for a fix now & then as well...................

What a contrast... hard to believe that someone lived with such lovely things and squalor at the same time!

I'd love some of that art work! :)

It got to 9pm Tuesday night, I had to cycle 5 miles to the pub for the weekly quiz night.
Just got back at 01.00am, 5 miles return albeit darker and shorter, belly full of beer and victorious quiz winner, One imperial gallon of Stella Artois to drink at my leisure,(left in the pub)

The house will remain sealed for 28 days unless the ex tenant exercises his rights to recover his possessions, which I doubt he will do.

After 28 days I will remove the saleable stuff from the house and split the profit with my son.
All the crap can be removed by the cleaners paid by the insurance company.

I`m now gearing up to clear a house in a nearby village at 12.00 Wednesday after some sleep time.

Latest update, I had my friend the auctioneer round here today and he was reasonably excited by the hoard, we listed many lots to go to auction, including the Columbian exposition mug and the US eagle fronted CDV album, and the auction or more likely auctions will be on the internet if any US bidders are interested.

Since I am in no hurry the plan is to place the items in the most appropriate sale (high quality, run of the mill or specialist) over possibly the next six months.

The chap has been involved in a few TV antiques programs so looking at the stuff was interspersed with some background gossip about the TV world and a certain amount of personal catching up.

Early next week we ship a car load of antiquarian books down to the Cotswolds to a specialist book auction, where despite the poor condition of many, they should more than cover all our costs and expenses for the whole hoard by themselves.

More waiting, of course, but it does give something to look forward to.
