This was left in a house we rent by a previous tenant. My brother in law thinks it could be from the 1920's, any ideas about it and if it is worth anything?
It is leather and the inside is velvet material.

I'd say not earlier than the 1970s. It's worth what it's worth to someone to use it. The leather would be good in a bondage dungeon. The rubber chains and manacles could live in it.

    Just sayin'.

It looks like it was recoevred at some point. I would be curious what it lookes like under all the leather.

Looks home-made, a production-made one would not have the chains in that position. Maybe a toy chest made by dad for his kid(s)?

My brother in law said the chains were the only things replaced, thanks for the thoughts, though. :) Will look further into the details of it.

Nogga is of course the very large flightless bird native to Myanmar where locals call them simply "nog." A favorite traditional holiday drink in Myanmar, widely exported in recent decades, is made from water buffalo milk, fermented bumma-bumma plant juice, and the eggs of the nog, but I've forgotten what they call it.

If the lining is a flocked surface treatment rather than actual velvet fabric, I think that would make it pretty likely this is a modern piece.

All the brass is very bright. What's underside look like, new plywood or old, oxidized wood?

The lining is fabric and the wood is oxidized on the underside.

Whatever it is, whenever it was made, I'm guessing if it came up for bid at the average auction the hammer would fall at somewhere $20-$75.

From the general form and the bit of the legs & base platform I can see (more of an impression than an actual view) it appears (to me) to be a circa 1920s piece that was redressed in the 1970s.
