Owl figurine,bronze or lead !

I say that because this thing,though only 3 1/2 inches tall,weighs a ton ! Im not into owls,or animal figurines,but the quality of this one just drew me. Under one of the toes is a scratch with what looks like brass. Is there any way I could figure out if its bronze ? I thought it a cold painted Vienna bronze,but that's probably wishful thinking ! All input appreciated.

I don't think the one photo of the bottom is enough to tell what alloy it is, the whitish look could be white primer paint that didn't get fully covered with the final coat. Several photos taken close at various angles to avoid glare would be better but still guessing. If u have to describe it for sale, say it is made of "a copper alloy" so both bronze and brass are covered.

The weight of it puzzles me,its far heavier than one would think,couple more pics...

Thanks-I would lean toward bronze but you'd almost need to take it to a lab or track down the maker to know for sure. The two primary choices for casting a painted art object like this would be bronze and spelter, not normally brass. Both alloys mentioned can reproduce fine detail such as feathers, hair etc. but brass doesn't.

 

I think it's probably bronze too, by the detail achieved, and the way you describe the weight.

 

Thanks for the input everyone. I got it at the same place I found the ivory camels,so I hoped it might be better quality.
